our story

With the threat of dismantling 50 years of federal protections for abortion access, Californians came together to prioritize policies that protect reproductive freedom in our state.

The RHSC was born from the recommendations of the California Future of Abortion Council, was authored by Assembly Member Cottie Petrie-Norris, and signed into law by Governor Gavin Newsom in September 2022.

California’s training investment is unique in both scope and depth. The RHSC is developing and strengthening training pathways for the entire healthcare team — expanding their knowledge and capacity to provide abortion care. Simultaneously, it updates our training institutions while harnessing our existing talent and expertise. The funding allocated to RHSC represents a historic investment in the reproductive health care workforce, with a $20 million investment for scholarships and loan repayment available through the Clinical Infrastructure Fund administered by HCAI.

MEET OUR CONSORTIUM OF PARTNERS

Each partner organization brings deep expertise in sexual and reproductive health and will work together to support targeted recruitment, training, and retention programs to ensure the entire healthcare workforce is trained to provide comprehensive sexual and reproductive health and abortion care.
